Hadrian Lodge sits high in the North Pennines, on the southern tip of the beautiful Northumberland National Park. It is a tranquil setting, amidst open pasture and gently undulating hills bordered by pine forest. It is an area of fabulous landscapes, with high crags and fertile valleys, gentle hills and sweeps of open moorland, with just the cry of the curlew and the bleating of the sheep breaking the peace and calm.

A mile or so to the south and 600 feet below Hadrian Lodge, England's finest salmon river, the South Tyne, meanders its way through the village of Haydon Bridge and the patchwork of fields and deciduous woodland beyond.

Take the road north over the Roman 'Stanegate' (Stone Road) and you'll find Housesteads Fort, once home to over 1,000 Roman soldiers. Nearby, there are many small villages to explore, with quaint churches, picturesque buildings and inviting pubs. Only eight miles away is the thriving county market town of Hexham, the 'capital' of rural Tynedale.

Further afield, less than a 40 minute drive north takes you into the Scottish Lowlands; the same distance west you'll find the English Lake District. To the east is Tyneside, home of the Metrocentre, Europe's largest shopping centre, and south is the historic City of Durham, with its magnificent castle and cathedral.
